2XKO Announces New PvE Roguelike Mode in Latest Trailer
Riot Games' fighting game may not have kicked off to the beginning that the team wanted, but it has been kicking off, despite the massive layoffs that hit the company. With the announcement of two new champions for players to take control of, it's been an exciting time for the League of Legends–based fighter.
Of course, perhaps the most exciting announcement that was part of the upcoming update is the arrival of a shadow-dropped PvE mode. Titled "The Climb", this arcade mode focuses on a roguelike element where players will be able to select from over 100 augments, fighting through a map of foes to reach the final boss.
The roguelike mode is very akin to the one launched on Legends of Runeterra, which later became the primary one as Riot Games scaled down the PvP element in favour of PvE roguelike. Players can map out their path through the world to get to the top, fighting against various foes, getting augments that affect the overall gameplay, and reaching the top to fight against the final boss.

Excitingly, the new PvE game mode comes with three difficulties (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), and completing them with each champion rewards rewards, including exclusive chromas. So players are encouraged to give it a shot and try out their own climb through the ranks of foes.
While it won't have a story mode (yet, hopefully), it'll be a great way for newcomers to get into 2XKO and become familiar with the gameplay before possibly converting over to the PvP mode. Or perhaps it might grow past its original roots and become a more pivotal part of the experience, much like what happened with Legends of Runeterra.
Only time will tell what the future holds for 2XKO's The Climb PvE mode, but it's an exciting time to get into the experience all the same. Players can check it out as of the update launched on the 9th of June 2026.
