Adculus Rift Brings VR to the Budget Market

Adculus Rift Brings VR to the Budget Market

Editor's Note: The astute amongst you will have probably noticed the date on this article already. This April Fools gag was brought to you by GameGrin.com

2016 is being seen by many industry analysts as the “year of VR”. With the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, the PlayStation VR and Nintendo’s New Wii U all being released this year, there’s no shortage of things that players can strap to their heads in order to immerse themselves more fully into the world of the games they play.
Unfortunately, these devices have been deemed to be particularly expensive for many gamers, with an Oculus Rift setting you back the best part of £700 and the PlayStation VR costing as much as the PS4 you will need to use it. Stop forward the “Adculus Rift”. This is Oculus’ answer to the lower end of the market and will be sold in the Uk for £249 and the US for $369 from November 31st.

Of course, as is always the case with these things, there is a catch. In order to get a discounted Virtual Reality experience, you will need to sign up to the Adculus service, an advertising service created specifically for the new device. By playing games on the Adculus Rift, you’ll be agreeing to take part in the service which inserts adverts into your games in return for a hefty discount.

The service will beam an advert, usually for a match three puzzle game or a freemium card game, into one of the eyepieces during gameplay. This means that you never need to be taken away from the gaming experience as the game is always still running. Every 20 minutes, the eyepiece used will cycle, showing adverts on the opposite side, meaning that gamers will still get the full two-eye Oculus experience.

The unit will be available from BestBuy in the US and in the UK it will be exclusive to Poundland. As with most of the things in Poundland nowadays, that doesn’t mean it will actually cost a pound, but buy anything else in store and you can bring home a fully featured VR headset for just £249.
