Alienware Steam Machine Not Upgradeable for Normal People

Alienware Steam Machine Not Upgradeable for Normal People

There has been a bit of back and forth on whether Alienware will release a Steam Machine that can be upgraded by the end user after the man in charge said "nope".

Frank Azor, the CEO of Alienware was quoted eariler in the week as saying people would be better off buying an Alienware PC if they wanted upgrade options and yet he now has clarified the position.

"The Alienware Steam Machine, announced at CES, is designed to deliver a great gaming experience in the living room and we will enable customers to upgrade components. Considering we've purposefully designed the Alienware Steam Machine to be smaller than the latest generation consoles, upgrading the internal components will not be as easy as compared to other platforms, such as the Alienware X51, but we will not prevent a customer from upgrading."

The Steam Machine range will be upgraded every year according to Azor, whereas the X51 is a one screw and pull the part design.

So if you, like us, are inveterate tinkerers, you can upgrade away. If the concept of Phillips screwdrivers, skinned knuckles and colour coded wires scares you, you might want to leave well alone.
