An Open Letter to Hitman Fans

An Open Letter to Hitman Fans

"...we have removed 47’s magic pockets."
- The IO-Interactive Team

That was the claim from the team in charge of the Hitman series in an open letter to fans. For those unfamiliar with the term - it is applied to a character who, like Solid Snake or Link, has an infinite amount of space in their tights for RPG-launchers, fifteen bombs, a boomerang and a cardboard box. Fans were torn when Agent 47 was able to stuff his pockets more than full in Hitman Absolution, rather than the 'put them in a suitcase' favoured by some fans.

Also in the letter, linked below, IO-Interactive tease some of the features of the next instalment for the Hitman franchise.

"In the next game you will experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA."
- The IO-Interactive Team

Due to the events of Hitman: Absolution, it seems this sixth iteration will return to an Agency-led 47 as opposed to the Man-Against-The-World of the last game.

"We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels."
- The IO-Interactive Team

If there was ever a gripe I, myself, had with the previous Hitman games, it was the sense of linearity of each instalment. A clear A-to-B wasn't always what I was looking for. The Contracts mode (making a comeback in the next game) went some way to giving the game more to do, but it never felt truly open in the way the Assassin's Creed series manages.

We here at GameGrin have high hopes for this next iteration. We're almost getting tired of finding ways for our Editor-In-Chief to embarrass himself in Absolution's Contracts Mode.
