Battlefield 4 Getting Microtransactions

Battlefield 4 has a somewhat bad reputation with it's online aspect. This is unlikely to improve with the introduction of what can only be described as microtransactions.

For $1 - $3 you can get Battlepacks from Bronze, Silver and Gold. These are available through regular play and contain weapons and accessories, but these will - according to developer DICE - be a “shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield.”

Battlefield 4 isn't the first game to have multiplayer packs - Mass Effect 3 had the Spectre Packs. However, given the problems multiplayer has had since release it does feel like a kick in the face to those who chose to struggle rather than wait for the fixes.
