Chroma: Bloom and Blight - Trying to Get Monetisation Right

Clarity Games is proud of its approach to monetisation with upcoming free-to-play competitive card game Chroma: Bloom And Blight. Instead of the typical paid card packs and expansion, Chroma: Bloom And Blight will only charge for cosmetics that have no impact on gameplay. All of 240 cards, 22 heroes and future expansions will be free as soon as they're available.

It makes sense that the studio would want to remove the "collection grind"; the game's story and world seems too important to let paywalls get in the way of the player's enjoyment. Chroma is set in the world of Arholt—a land of myriad cultures, factions and warring sides—and sees players earning titbits of lore as rewards for interacting with certain cards and heroes.

There will be both a free and paid battle pass available at launch, although the paid battle pass is guaranteed to only offer cosmetic rewards—nothing gameplay-relevant.

Choma: Bloom and Blight releases on PC via Steam on the 28th January.
