Is ARAM: Mayhem A Permanent Game Mode in League of Legends?

Is ARAM: Mayhem A Permanent Game Mode in League of Legends?

ARAM: Mayhem launched as a limited-time game mode on League of Legends in October. This experience, borrowed from Wild Rift's Hextech ARAM, brought Arena augments to the Howling Abyss, which prevented some of the core gameplay quirks that made Arena a struggling game mode some time after its launch.

While it was supposed to last only for one Season, the sheer amount of support given to the game mode had Riot Games extend it for a limited time. It was undefined, which meant that it was up in the air whether it'd be for a few patches, months, or even a semi-temporarily permanent mode until further notice.

In the latest Dev Update, we had the opportunity to learn more about the future of ARAM: Mayhem, and those who aren't done enjoying the fast-paced augment-picking will be thrilled about the news. After talking a bit about the changes that are coming (such as the removal of Traits and the addition of over 50 augments), we learned a bit more about the future of ARAM: Mayhem.

As it stands, the team is looking to support it with future semi-balancing updates that'll focus on keeping the experience fun, while not exactly "balanced", since that goes against the game mode. Further emphasised, however, was the blog post for ARAM: Mayhem, which talks a bit more about the future.

We know about more augments coming, as ability-specific augments like Bread and Butter will be arriving alongside new Quest: augments for support and assassin. Better yet is that the team confirmed that the game mode would be receiving further development updates, seemingly confirming that it's here to stay permanently.

It's not an outright confirmation, and Riot Games is far from saying that ARAM: Mayhem is permanent. According to the blog, we learned more about the fact that ARAM: Mayhem has several future updates planned that lead into the next year — six months from now, and possibly further.

For all intents and purposes, until confirmed otherwise, it seems like Riot Games has assembled an official ARAM: Mayhem team to focus on the game mode. With updates planned until 2027, it seems safe to assume that it's here to stay.
