Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Roadmap Unveiled

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Roadmap Unveiled

Frontier Developments has released its development roadmap for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, the upcoming boots-on-the-ground expansion for space-faring MMO Elite Dangerous.

PC Alpha

Available to Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Deluxe Alpha owners and Lifetime Expansion Pass holders, the PC alpha build of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will launch in "early spring 2021" and roll out gradually over the course of many weeks. The team will maintain close communication with players and taking community feedback into consideration when rolling out the game's various systems and features in this "phased" manner.

PC Release

Late spring 2021

The game will become available to the wider PC market in late spring 2021, although the team assures players that it will still be "closely engaging with out community" in this time.

Console Release

autumn 2021

In autumn 2021, Frontier Developments plans to bring Elite Dangerous: Odyssey to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

What is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?

One of Frontier Developments' most ambitious undertakings, Odyssey, an expansion for the original Elite Dangerous, will let players explore a range of planets and locales on-foot for the first time. That means new locales, new opportunities for exploration, new missions, more characters and an all-new first-person combat system. It's an incredibly ambitious project, which is why the studio is taking such a cautious approach to its release, in addition to pandemic-related difficulties, of course.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey launches on PC in late spring 2021; PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will have to wait until autumn 2021 for their chance to buy the expansion.
