Enshrouded Talks About the Upcoming Major Content Update Releasing Later This Month in Latest Video

Enshrouded was released on Steam Early Access on the 24th of January 2024, and since then, the team has been actively keeping the title updated, bringing major content rehauls, changes, and more to keep its active community engaged. The next major content update, titled Update 8: Forging the Path, is set to release on the 21st of April, and the team has released a new video talking about what players can expect.

Keen Games GmbH's community manager, Andrew, talks a bit with the senior game designer, Christoph, about the massive changes and rehauls that the game is going to have. It's a seven-minute-long video showing an in-depth look at what players can expect and what sort of content will be available.

The video touches on the changes that will be coming to both the skill tree and the itemisation elements in the game. Update 8 will bring a fair share of content, and these two elements will be getting reworked as well, making them more accessible and in line with what the team wanted to reflect in the game.

For the skill tree, for instance, players will be able to access skill trees faster, with different levels that will allow them to go deeper into the node or level up every skill slowly. Some skill nodes have been removed and integrated into skill level, while other skills have been added to accommodate the missing ones, making the skill tree upgrades more rewarding.

Itemisation will also play a role in the skill tree rehaul as well, as skills can now have synergies with some items in the game, rewarding better building of the character. Upgrades are also coming to armour, shields, and rings, bringing the weapon upgrade system to more elements of the character outfit overall.

Item rarity will dictate how much a player can or can't upgrade their items, so they'll be more impactful overall, and for the ones that are now useless, a scrapping system for runes has been implemented. This should allow players to empty out storage boxes full of useless equipment they no longer intend to utilise.

The itemisation overhaul extends to gameplay systems as well, with the return of item perks. Armor, Health, Mana, Stamina, Regeneration, Crit Chance, and even a new type of perk that affects a level within the skill tree — armour pieces with this perk will be able to exceed the maximum level of a perk in the tree, which will let you take even more advantage of the skills.

Armour isn't only getting perks back, however, as the overall armour stat rehaul will be a bit more significant than just the return of perks. Now, armour can — and should — be upgraded throughout progression, as it will increase the overall Armor stat with each upgrade. It's worth noting that common and legendary items start with the same base stats, just that legendary-tier gear will have more room for growth.

This will also affect the overall armour types and fantasies. Each archetype will be more focused, offering higher or lower defence stats depending on their preferred playstyle — tanks will get more armour, while mages will have less, but melee battle mages will have the chance to be tankier than regular ones. This should let players customise their character to fit their preferred class style, and it also comes with a roleplay element, where NPCs will only work on relevant armour that they can.

The update will be available on the 21st of April, bringing all of these overhaul changes. However, for Flameborn looking to jump into Embervale, they should keep in mind that the skill tree rework will mean that all skill points have been refunded. You'll need to fill them in once again before jumping out into late-game areas.
