Everything You Need to Know About Wizard101's Console Launch

Developed and published by KingsIsle, Wizard101 is an MMORPG that released back in 2008. The title has nearly 8,000 reviews on Steam and an upcoming expansion called Darkmoor!

For those who have had their curiosity piqued by the arrival to console, here's everything you should know about it.

What Consoles Is Wizard101 Available On?

At the time of writing, Wizard101 is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 (using compatibility mode). The team has plans to also release it on the Nintendo Switch.

Are consoles and PC accounts different?

Yes: Wizard101 accounts made for PC cannot be used on console, and vice versa. This is important information to know, as any account created on the website (which will have a username and password) cannot be used on consoles, and each one is tied to the device it was created on (i.e. you cannot log in through your Xbox-created account on a PlayStation).

Due to this, there are some limitations:

• Characters cannot be transferred from PC to console (or vice versa).
• Any purchases made through the website can only be applied to PC accounts.
• Memberships from PC accounts cannot be transferred to console.
• Gift certificates or any redeemable codes from the website can only be used on PC accounts.
• The Crown Shop for PC and console will operate independently (the latter will begin small but is planned to grow).

Will There Be Crossplay?

PC players will not be able to play with console players, but the latter can choose to crossplay with other devices.

Will the Console Version of Wizard101 Have Chat?

For the time being, players can only use the menu chat (premade things) to communicate with others. The developer suggests using third-party programmes, such as Discord, to chat with friends (of course, KingIsle is not affiliated with and is not responsible for anything said through these third-party voice chat apps during your gameplay).

Will the Membership Be Tied to Other Services, Such as Xbox Live and PlayStation+?

No. Players who want to have a membership can do so by buying the elixirs for a one- or six-month membership that can be found in the in-game Crown Store.
