Free Fly Week for Star Citizen As New Patch Arrives

Space games are the genre of 2016. At last count, there was an Early Access space exploration game for every third person on Earth, and rising. Doing its best to stand out in a crowded market is Star Citizen, brainchild of Chris Roberts, creator of the Wing Commander series. The game hasn't even been released yet and it's already a success story: it's the first game to raise over $100,000 via crowd funding.

The game got a minor patch recently, bringing it to version 2.2.2. The patch doesn't add any new features but it does squash a few of the games bugs, including a number of issues that were causing game crashes. There was much more exciting news shortly after though when RSI announced a "Free Fly Week" is incoming.

The Free Fly week gives all players of the Early Access game the chance to fly any ship in the game for one week. This includes all limited ships such as the Scythe. The event gives everyone access to three unique parts of the Star Citizen experience:

  • Star Citizen Alpha 2.2.2 – Also known as Crusader or the “mini-PU,” this is the nucleus of the world we’re building! Featuring multiple space stations and environments, scripted missions, places to explore and more, Alpha 2.2.2 is your first look at a much larger universe!
  • Arena Commander – Arena Commander is a ‘game within a game’ that we’ve used to develop our flight mechanics and ship combat balance. Take on human opponents or an AI swarm in single seat fighter.
  • Social Module – Interact with other players while you explore our first landing zone, ArcCorp! The Social Module is intended as a starting point for our world building,
