Future Games Show GC 2025: Cairn

Climbing is terrifying. It’s the kind of hobby where one mistake can have absolutely devastating consequences in just a few moments. At gamescom, we saw a trailer for Cairn, a climbing title that manages to capture the thrilling but frightening experience of the attempts to reach a never-before-conquered summit.

Coming from The Game Bakers, developers of Furi, this is a climbing adventure with a rich story, but Cairn’s latest trailer, shown above after being shown in the Future Games Show tonight, is devoid of that story. Tonight, we saw the Solo Free Mode. Not only does this mode dispense with the story, it dispenses with lives and ropes too. You’ll be just free climbing the mountain, with death a heartbeat away. If the blood-curdling screams of the main character falling to her inevitable demise makes you want to play the game, there’s a demo available now on Steam, ahead of the game’s release in October.
