How to Join the PAYDAY 2 Engine Upgrade Open Beta

PAYDAY 2 recently announced that the team was changing and upgrading the engine, giving a facelift to the Diesel engine and making it more compatible with a lot of content. Despite being 13 years old, PAYDAY 2 continues to be a strong pillar of the Steam co-op community, and these updates should make it easier for the team to continue working on it.

The Open Beta was announced a while back, as players were invited to check out the upgraded version and give a helping hand in reporting bugs. With it now out, here's how to actually partake in the PAYDAY 2 Engine Upgrade Open Beta:

• In your Steam library, right-click PAYDAY 2
• Select "Properties" from the menu
• Select the "Game Versions & Betas" option in the left-side menu
• Select the "open_beta Diesel 3.0 Beta" branch

This should update the game and set it to the new engine upgrade. However, Sidetrack Games warns players that modded saves won't be compatible, so they suggest removing mods and making a backup, especially for those who have new weapons added to the game.

The team is working with Mod Developers to make the transition less painful and ensure that the mods work across the upgrade, but at the current state of testing, it hasn't been implemented.
