Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Live Orchestral Soundtrack Coming Soon

Whilst most Zelda fans are currently enjoying the open-world experience of Breath of the Wild, there’s still a huge amount of love for Link’s first 3D adventure back in 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The game was renowned for its Koji Kondo-composed soundtrack, which in many places was an integral part of the gameplay as well as being the backing to your Hyrulian adventures.

Materia collective clearly harbour that love of the game, as they’re behind the release of a new set of recordings of the game’s soundtrack, coming to CD, Vinyl and digital download soon. It’ll be available digitally on Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify, as well as physically in Vinyl form from iam8bit and on a limited edition CD from Bandcamp.

"Orchestral recordings of music from The Legend of Zelda have become increasingly popular over the last several years," notes arranger and project director Eric Buchholz. "With Hero of Time, we sought to create a single, cohesive experience that weaves all of the complex underlying themes of the game, like impermanence and mortality, with Koji Kondo's timeless melodies that have become as iconic as the game itself. The orchestration takes an 'east-meets-west' approach, with the inclusion of taiko ensembles, eastern woodwinds, and harmonies found prevalent in Japanese film and game scores."

The new arrangements are the brainchild of Eric Buchholz, and feature the talents of Slovak National Symphony Orchestra. They will be available in digital and limited edition CD formats on the 27th of March, with the double disc coloured vinyl release to follow via iam8bit at a later date. Pre-orders are open now, so why not check it out on the Materia Collective website?
