Mass Effect Andromeda Protagonist Info Revealed

At the recent Playstation Meeting, Bioware revealed the first ever gameplay footage of Mass Effect Andromeda - this aimed to showcase the newly announced PS4 Pro's visual capabilities. While the demo was certainly stunning and there are plenty of lore hints to be found in the environment, the video didn't say too much about the characters or narrative.

However, in an interview with Playstation Access, which can be viewed in this article's header, Creative Lead Mac Walters spoke more openly about protagonist Ryder. While you can choose to play as a female or male Ryder, Walters revealed that the two are actually sister and brother.

The Creative Lead from Bioware remarked "So if you're playing as the sister Ryder... your brother is somewhere in the universe." This is quite the departure from the original Mass Effect trilogy, where one customisable Shepard existed. Perhaps you'll be able to customise both Ryders, akin to Fallout 4's opening? We're hoping that who you choose to play as has a major impact on the story, switching the duo's narrative roles around.

And that's not all. According to Walters, the character above is the Ryder siblings' father. "So we've got the full Ryder family sort of now revealed." The N7 Ryder is obviously a huge part of the game, as he has featured so heavily in teasers, and he was the first character ever shown.

If you revisit the original Andromeda announcement trailer, there are surely some clues to be found about the mysterious Ryder's role in the game. Does the father have his own ship and squadmates, just like the playable Ryder? Just like Shepard? The team, a ship and an N7 commander formula has become a sign of heroism to those who played the original trilogy. If this N7 Ryder happens to be Andromeda's antagonist, that's some very clever psychological reversal going on. But that's just speculation.
