New Details on Sonic the Hedgehog movie as "Protosonic" unveiled as new Baddie

Editor's Note: The astute amongst you will have probably noticed the date on this article already. This April Fools gag was brought to you by GameGrin.com

It’s safe to say that the initial reaction to trailers for 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog was not entirely positive. The original model for the titular erinaceid was deemed by many people as being far too creepy and the studio decided to adjust him. The uncanny valley fur, the humanesque teeth and the tiny eyes all combined to create a monstrosity that even a mother couldn’t love. It was all OK in the end though as the new model for Sonic was far less unnerving and the movie proved to be a massive hit.

2022 sees the second film in the series, the imaginatively titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Whilst we have only a few details on the film so far, what we do now know is that first CGI model for our favourite hedgehog is set to return. With the moniker “Protosonic”, that first model is to become the villain of the new film, somewhat akin to Sonic CD’s introduction of Metal Sonic as a bad guy.  creepysonic2

Still terrifying even after all this time.

We don’t yet know exactly how Protosonic comes into the mix, and there’s no official word on casting, but an inside source has suggested that after Jim Carey’s successful return to high profile pictures in the first film, Paramount has enlisted another former A-lister with a waning career to play the new bad guy with Steven Segal joining the cast.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is due to be released on the 8th of April 2022 worldwide, with hopes that we will all be able to see it in cinemas particularly high. It remains to be seen if that date will be met however, as the last outing of that Sonic model caused delays while a new one was created. If there’s another backlash, will we see another delay?
