Palworld Releases Hits Massive Sales Milestone

Palworld Releases Hits Massive Sales Milestone

It seems like, out of nowhere, the videogame industry was hit with a massive release. On the 9th of January 2024, Pocketpair released a trailer showing off the upcoming release date for their shooter-based Pokémon-like survival open-world title, Palworld. From there, it quickly skyrocketed to becoming one of the most anticipated titles released, reaching the top 10 Steam wishlists and then smashing more records after release.

On the 19th of January 2024, only 10 days after the original release date announcement, Palworld released in Early Access to Steam, and fans quickly took notice. It hit the front page on the official Steam app relatively soon thereafter, and after a few thousand reviews, it seemed like Palworld had been a massive success.

What we didn't know, however, was how much — announced on their official X account @Palworld_EN, the team released a graphic showing that it wasn't only a few hundred thousand copies sold, but instead a staggering 2,000,000 in just under 24 hours, making it a great success for the indie team. And even beyond that tight 24-hour window, just 40 hours after release, it sold another million copies, giving them a staggering 3,000,000 copies sold over nearly two days.

To put that into perspective, the prestigious God of War: Ragnarök sold 5.1 million copies over the course of its launch week for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. In fact, this sets Palworld among the fastest-selling titles ever, with the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: SkyrimDestiny 2, and even Grand Theft Auto V.

Reviews on Steam are just as enthusiastic about the game as everyone else seems to be — after expecting a meme release that many would disregard, there are already 16,136 reviews (at the time of writing) with a 92% positive score. It's slated to only go higher from here, meaning that Palworld and the Pocketpair team are eyeing an Overwhelmingly Positive release, and a second successful title after their Craftopia game.

If you're interested in checking out this creature collector with dark humour, guns, and automation sprinkled in with survival elements and an open world to explore, then don't miss out on the opportunity to start your journey! Palworld is out now on Steam, and it won't be leaving its Early Access for a while longer — you just might be surprised by the world and creatures to get!
