Planet Zoo 2 Releases New Batch of Animals to the Zoopedia

Planet Zoo 2 Releases New Batch of Animals to the Zoopedia

Frontier Developments is working on the sequel to the famous Planet Zoo, where players were able to create their own exhibits for animals, care for them, and own the zoo of their dreams. It's been a pretty cool simulator that just missed the mark for its Overwhelmingly Positive review score on Steam, sitting at 90% with nearly 80,000 reviews at the time of writing.

The sequel is well on its way, with a release date announced and pre-orders live. But perhaps more excitingly to lovers of animals is the weekly promotions, where Frontier Developments adds animals to the Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia.

For the uninitiated, this is a fun little website that shares information about the types of animals players will be able to have in their habitats. You'd be forgiven for thinking it's going to be over-the-surface facts, but in reality, it's a surprisingly in-depth look at the animals, including an overview, class, order, family, genus, location, conservation status, social reproduction, and animal facts. It's extensive, to say the least.

Every week, Planet Zoo 2 adds several new animals to the Zoopedia, bringing more facts and reading material for those who want to get to know more of the animals that live on Earth. Excitingly, this information will serve as part of the gameplay in the simulator, giving players the opportunity to build their habitats and own the very animals they learned about.

For this latest batch, the following animals were added to the Zoopedia:

  • Plainz zebra
  • Blue wildebeast
  • Hawksbill turtle
  • Lion
  • Common bluetongue
  • Golden poison frog
  • Red deer
  • Eurasian brown bear

This brings the total number of animals announced in the Zoopedia to 28, with more to come as we near the release on the 13th of October 2026.
