Prey's History of TranStar

Prey's History of TranStar

The story behind the development of Prey (2017), the sequel to 2006's Prey, is a complex one. The game was rescued from development hell, cancelled, then the IP was attached to an unrelated game that was retrofitted to the title as a reboot. If you think that's complex though, the alternate timeline plot of the game may just blow your mind.

On their website, Arkane introduced us to TranStar; the shady company that the game revolves around, and not, as you might expect, a reality show for people with gender dysmorphia. In the alternate reality of the game, JFK was never assassinated and the space race was much more accelerated. At the heart of it is TranStar Corporation.

“The world of Prey is not exactly the world as we know it,” says Creative Director Raphael Colantonio. “We imagined how things would have gone if we had added one very significant event to our timeline: the discovery of non-terrestrial life forms in the 50s.”

“This discovery has all kinds of rippling consequences in our version of history, including Kennedy surviving his assassination attempt, which in turn led to more involvement from the U.S. government in space research, and so on,” adds Lead Designer Ricardo Bare. “These ripples are even reflected in the 60s ‘neo-deco’ aesthetic of Talos I.”

Prey will launch in 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. If you're hungry for more details in the meantime though, why not head on over to the game's official website to get the lowdown.
