Shady Pre-Order Practices from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Developer?

A user over at reddit's /r/Games, by the name of Le_Euphoric_Genius, has pointed out something quite surprising in relation to how pre-orders are being set out for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

He posted up a table complete with a set of comprehensive links, and revealed the somewhat odd arrangement of pre-order exclusives for the upcoming remaster of Gears of War. Some countries get different exclusive skins and characters, and some retailers in countries even differ.

We've reproduced the table he got took his information from below:

Deluxe Edition[1] - Civilian Marcus Fenix and Aaron Griffin, Deluxe Weapon Skin Pack (10 animated and 36 standard weapons skins). This $60 version of a $40 game also includes either Adam Fenix or Civilian Anya depending on whether you buy the game from the US or UK.

UK

US

  • Microsoft Store[3] - Civilian Anya, Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin and $10 Xbox gift card
  • Amazon[4] - Savage Theron Guard
  • GameStop[5] - Savage Grenadier Elite
  • BestBuy[6] - Golden Hunter

CA

NZ

RU

AU

AT

ES

  • Game[17] - Savage Theron Guard
  • XtraLife[18] - Golden Miner

KR

  • Yepan[19] - (Choose one when ordering out of...) Savage Kantus, Savage Grenadier Elite, Savage Drone, Golden Hunter,Golden Miner or Savage Theron Guard.

NO

  • Cdon[20] - Civilian Anya, Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin and Adam Fenix
  • Cdon[21] - (Deluxe Edition) Deluxe Weapon Skin Pack, Aaron Griffin and Adam Fenix

TW

  • Buy.Gamer[22] - Civilian Anya, Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin and Cole? (does not mention what Cole but i assume Superstar Cole)
  • Asap[23] - Civilian Anya, Animated Imulsion Weapon Skin and Superstar Cole

Miscellaneous

It's not uncommon for companies to give retailer exclusives, but it is quite odd that they have split the number of available characters in each region so much. This may be a strange way to make people want to buy the Deluxe Edition, but such exclusivity is only going to serve to make people stop pre-ordering if the content will later be part of a Season Pass.

But as Le_Euphoric_Genius points out, if you missed exclusive characters in Gears of War 3, you missed them for good...

Will you be pre-ordering Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, or is it looking a little less ultimate?
