Six Days in Fallujah to Release After 12 Years of Silence

Controversial title Six Days in Fallujah has resurfaced with a new developer and publisher after over a decade of silence. Accompanying this announcement is an all-new trailer which combines soldier interviews, real-life footage and gameplay (or pre-rendered cinematics). Check it out above.

The project, set to release this year for PC and consoles, is being led by ex-Bungie staff who had a central role in the development of both the Halo and Destiny franchises. The CEO of the game's original developer is still on board as part of publisher Victura. It seeks to retain the original project's vision of recreating the realities of war; Highwire Games and Victura have spent three years "building unique technologies and game mechanics that bring players closer to the uncertainty and tactics of modern combat".

Originally announced in 2009 by developer Atomic Games, the tactical third-person shooter set during 2004's second battle for Fallujah was the focus of a storm of controversy from the media. It was seen as making light of what was, especially at the time, a very recent piece of wartime carnage and real-world horror. While it was never officially cancelled, the project petered out in 2010 and was assumed MIA.

Now the game is back, taking the same ideas that inspired the original release, albeit with a modern design philosophy. It aims to be authentic, that much we already know. As for further details, we'll have to wait for more details in the coming weeks.

Six Days in Fallujah will release in 2021 for PC and consoles.
