Sony Announce Return of Classic Platforming Mascot

Sony Announce Return of Classic Platforming Mascot

Editor's Note: The astute amongst you will have probably noticed the date on this article already. This April Fools gag was brought to you by GameGrin.com

Sony have made a big thing about the PS4 being “for the gamers” and part of that is creating a mix of different genres to cater for the varying taste of modern gamers. One genre that hasn’t seen too much action on the console so far though is platformers. With the lacklustre reception to launch title Knack, Sony hasn’t been keen to return to the genre for a while.

2016 is set to put a change to that though. We have a new Ratchet and Clank game out later this month, but, not resting on their laurels, Sony have announced that November will see the one of the most popular platformers on the PS1 return to our screens to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their most popular game. After a successful re-release of the first two games on Steam last year, the Japanese giant are bringing Bubsy the Bobcat, winner of “most hype for a character” in Electronic Gaming Monthly’s 1993 poll, back to the limelight as a PS4 exclusive.

Bubsy 3D was originally released in 1996 to rapturous reception. The game also made eighth place on GameTrailers' 2006 list “Top 10 Best and Worst Games”. It’s widely regarded as one of the most famous games on the PS1 and 20 years on, we will be seeing a new game coming to the PS4. Bubsy VR will be the first platformer to take advantage of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset and will be released as a launch title when the device comes in October.

I know, I'm so excited for this. Bubsy 3D was literally one of the games I had on my PS1.
