Star Citizen Switches Engine And Introduces Star Marine

Star Citizen's development woes are well documented at this point but the release of Alpha 2.6 brings with it the first iteration of its arena-FPS module, Star Marine which comes with two modes in this initial version. The patch also brings with it a new Arena Commander mode, Pirate Swarm along with an array of fixes, quality of life improvements and a new menu system amongst other things.

Not mentioned in the official patch notes and overview, however, but mentioned in their newsletter is the engine change from CryTek's CryEngine base to Amazon's Lumberyard.

Lumberyard is based on CryEngine and will give Roberts Space Industries access to the enhancements Amazon have been making as well as their own bespoke changes. Chris Roberts has cited Amazon's AWS (Amazon Web Services) server-side work especially as being a specific focus for the switch.
