Steam Link Arrives to Meta Quest

Fans of VR have received some of the greatest news for those who use their PCs to game! If you have a Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro, you will be thrilled to find out that the Steam Link app has released for everyone — for free!

What does this mean? Well, though you could already play games wirelessly via Air Link, many experienced bugs, issues, and errors when using that format. Instead, you can now browse directly through the Meta Store and download the Steam Link app, meaning you can now bypass having to connect through the Air Link by instead using this as your streaming system.

Of course, there are a few minimum requirements that your PC will have to meet in order to connect with a Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro, all of which we'll list below for ease of access:

• Router with a wired connection to your PC
• 5GHz Wi-Fi network for your headset
• GPUs: NVIDIA (GTX970 or better)
• OS: Windows 10 or newer
• Headset: Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro

These aren't much different from the types of requirements you could expect by using Air Link, but it's still always worth mentioning. Alongside the minimum requirements, you can also expect these as your recommended specs (meaning it would be preferable, but you can still run your Steam games via Steam Link without it):

• Router with a wired connection to your PC
• 5GHz Wi-Fi network for your headset
• Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E
• GPUs: NVIDIA GPU RTX 2070 or better
• 16 GB of RAM
• OS: Windows 10 or newer
• Headset: Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro

Notably, the Wi-Fi speed change, a higher graphics card power (the RTX 2070), and 16GB of RAM are the "recommended" changes to run it without a hitch; this is good news considering most Steam users (according to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey: October 2023) have a 3060, though the second most common card falls just short of the recommended, which should be fine given the minimum requirements is the only "mandatory" conditions to be able to use Steam Link.
