The Last of Us: Part II Has Been Delayed

A recent Twitter thread suggested bad news for an upcoming first-party PlayStation title, with a delay for an unspecified game being teased by numerous credible sources in the gaming industry.

It turns out that the delayed title is The Last of Us Part II, which was confirmed in a blog post by the game’s director Neil Druckmann. He explains that the new release date is 29th May 2020, and goes on to explain why.

“However, it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality. At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

This is a surprise, given the large event to promote the release date as well as the new trailer during the latest State of Play stream. Thankfully, it’s not a major delay, with fans only having to wait a few more months to get their hands on the highly anticipated sequel.

The Last of Us Part II is coming to PlayStation 4 on 29th May 2020.
