Valve Adds New Wishlist Functionality to Steam

Wishlisting has always been one of the best ways to keep track of the top games coming out on Steam. For many — myself included — it's a great way to remember the top games from the thousands of titles launching every single month, keeping a neat list of the best of the best.

With more and more titles releasing on Steam, it's becoming even more difficult to sort through lists and make things manageable properly. To fix this issue, Valve has released a new update to the wishlist, which adds a few additional systems to the way we handle wishlists overall.

The first element is the much-needed category element added, which allows players to create their own lists within the wishlist category. Now, instead of having one homogeneous Steam wishlist that encompasses hundreds or thousands of games (we don't judge), you can have neat lists for several categories; a more digestible shopping experience.

These individual categories can also be shared via the Steam link, where players are now allowed to share only specific parts of their wishlist for those who wish to send gifts. Think about creating a "Birthday List" to send to friends and family, or a "Most-wanted Titles" section.

This is perhaps the biggest and most important change that the Steam wishlist has had in years. But there were a few minor ones, too; here are all of the minor changes to the Steam wishlist:

• Autofill added for faster results (we see you, slow typers).
• New "Demo Available" highlight to check out titles in your wishlist with demos.
• A new microtrailer plays whenever you hover over each game's capsule image.
• Improvements to navigation to and from the wishlist in the browser, mobile, Steam Client, and SteamOS, such as bringing you back to your original spot.
• Minor improvements to contrast and legibility.

These changes are an amazing quality-of-life improvement for those who have a lot of titles in their wishlist and wish to sort through them in more intuitive ways. From creating mini lists to keeping track of your most-wanted titles, it's going to make Steam seasonal sales all the more deadly to wallets than they used to be.
