Watch the New Barotrauma Trailer Showcasing the Treacherous Tides Update

In the new update for Barotrauma, developers Undertow Games and FakeFish and publishers Daedalic Entertainment have introduced an overhaul to the traitor system. The update, Treacherous Tides, will include new features, events, and rewards and will let traitors sink further into the campaign. With over four years of Barotrauma, there have been over 2.5 million downloads (and counting) on Steam, including a robust modding community of over 50,000 fan-made creations.

For those who don’t know, Barotrauma is a 2D multiplayer (with single-player features)  submarine simulator set in the seas of Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter, with a twist: there are traitors aboard. Featuring survival horror and RPG elements, you and a team attempt to maintain a submarine as you all traverse caverns, fight against aggressive fish, and discover the traitorous crew members.

Only... the traitor system overhaul will make it trickier to spot them. The new features will make traitor gameplay more engaging for players, offer more variety to the ways you can sabotage, and delve deeper into the multiplayer campaign game mode. Developer Fakefish has added new settings for traitors in the server settings: Danger Levels to dictate how dangerous the tasks might be on the sub and Traitor Probability to create an aura of mystery between the crew if there really is a traitor, or you’re just being paranoid.

Traitors who succeed in their missions will get XP and/or monetary rewards, as well as the possibility of chaining their traitorous acts to future tasks. But, if the task fails or the crew correctly accuses the traitor, a new player will take your place for the next traitor mission.

Here's where it gets even more tricky. The previous traitor system consisted of only seven different events. Now, there will be 27 events in total. Some of these events will also require multiple traitors, which need special codewords used between each other to complete each task.

New unique items have been added to aid the crew (and the traitors), such as radio jammers, Deepdiver Ducks (new throwable item), different types of timed explosives, and The Husk Caller, an item I don't want to spoil.
