Yes, Skyrim Will be Coming to the Switch

It's been an interesting ride for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fans wanting to play on Nintendo's next-gen console. The game was shown in the teaser trailer back in 2016, but Bethesda were quick to say that its presence wasn't a confirmation of the game being released on the Switch. This swift rebuttal led many to believe that the game would not be released on the system after all.

We now have official confirmation that the game will indeed be coming to the console later this year, so there's no longer any need to let something as simple as leaving the house stop you from exploring the world of Tamriel. All press materials and statements simply refer to the game as Skyrim, so it looks like we will be seeing the regular edition rather than the recently remastered edition that PS4 and Xbox One owners have been playing.

“We love to make games and worlds that you can get lost in, that you can make your own, and that you never want to put down,” says Game Director Todd Howard. “Well, now you don’t have to. Now you can play Skyrim wherever you want, and take it on your own adventures.” He continued, saying “The Switch is both classically Nintendo yet something all new, we want to thank them for letting us be a part of it.”

With the debacle that was the Wii U, Nintendo have clearly learnt that third party support can make or break a console. This is the first time that Bethesda have made a game for a Nintendo console, and they join a host of over 50 developers making games for the Switch.
