Alien Breed Impact Review

Alien Breed Impact has Team 17s recent remake Alien Breed Evolution and then turns it up to eleven. Looking back at the original review, the game scored an8.5 - not bad in its own right. But Team17 didn't stop there, they had more to give; and they've given it to the PC crowd this time.

There'snot much to say that hadn't been said in the original review, the game is plenty atmospheric thanks to the Unreal engines lighting models. The menu systems havn't really been changed and you still get that slightly chilling "Welcome to Intex Systems" when you launch the game.

Sowhat have Team17 done with this that it deserves a new subtitle? Well first off, quite literally is the new "Prologue" chapter intended to serve as an 'introduction' to the game for new players. Those of you who've already played through Evolution, however, won't be gaining too much more from this prologue, so you may want to wait on a sale on the title so you're not paying for the same thing twice essentially.

Next up is the aliens, who've undergone a makeover. This isn't in the "Extreme Makeover: Alien Edition" as well, who canpretty up an alien? Either way, with the intention of the game being todispatch of the aliens as quickly as possible, you're not going to be looking at them long enough to notice, unless you've spent time studyingthe corpse animations...

Finally, the weapon upgrade system. It seems that most games these days have some form of upgrade system, be it levels for your characters, better weapons for your spaceship, or bigger boomsticks for use in cleaning up alien invasions. We as gamers like these systems as it gives a sense of progression, like the effort we are putting into a game is going somewhere. Team17 seized this idea and stapled it onto Alien Breed so the PC & PS3 crowd could get their upgrade on.

Xboxowners will be missing this update, which is a shame as the extra tweaks do add a bit more variety to what is already a good game. Team17 announced that there were too many changes to the core game, which is beyond the abilities of the Xbox update platform. Which is a shame for those who jumped on board early to support the title.

Nevertheless, the game is still brilliant, even for the second time through. As much as the additions bring to the game, it doesn't seem enough to warrant a change in score.
