Catto's Post Office Review

Hope you are ready for a cosy and whimsical game; that is exactly what Catto’s Post Office promises to deliver. Take on the role of Catto, a grey and white kitty, who is a mail carrier in this tiny town. The game begins in Catto’s bedroom, complete with a bed, numerous boxes, and a scratching post where you can swat at the ball hanging from it. Be prepared for a load of good meownings; there is no shortage of silly cat puns in Catto’s Post Office, along with a dedicated meow button.

We learn that it’s Catto’s birthday today, and instead of taking the day off to celebrate, our kitty is hard at work. They love their job as a mail carrier and can’t wait to deliver the post and speak with all the residents. Controlling Catto and travelling around the cat town is incredibly simple: move using the left thumbstick, and rotate the camera with the right. There is only one button in use here, and that functions to pick up packages, speak with the residents you interact with, and do fun things like hit rubber duckies off of ledges, kick the soccer ball sitting on the street into the goal, or jump into any box that you find lying around, just like a real cat. 

The assistant cat at the post office fills you in on what is going on for the day every morning, including International Belly Rub Day. She gives you the packages that you will need to deliver that day. As a mail carrier, you will travel all around town to complete your task, even up a hill to get to the bakery where your first package is going. Catto does not have a map, but outside the post office, there is a bulletin board showing where everything is located in town, so you know where deliveries to the florist, grocery store, cafe, and nursing home need to go. Between each delivery, you need to go back to the post office and pick up the next piece of mail you have to take out; Catto apparently has a limited amount of space in their mail bag!

When you are making all your deliveries and interacting with the residents around town, you will get asked to give them a hand with a variety of tasks. For example, the Forgetful Cat (that is their name) has lost their package and thinks it’s somewhere near the water, finding the florist's scissors that they left in the garden, or locating the lost lucky coin. You know that they want to speak with you when there is a speech button over the top of their head, so make sure to check in with them. Even the post office assistant has a special request; she asks you to pick up a drink (a lactose-free, room-temperature milk) for them if it isn’t too much trouble, since you are making a delivery to the cafe anyway.

The game has a simple and cutesy design that fits with the feel of Catto’s Post Office. All the kitty residents in town have a unique personality and appearance; my favourite has to be the sleepy cat who you always find snoozing away dressed in a shirt that says "eepy". The music, like the visuals, is simple and relaxing; plus, since the game is short, it doesn’t get repetitive. 

Since Catto’s Post Office can be completed in 30 to 60 minutes, this game is a perfect title if you want something that doesn’t require a huge time commitment. This fetch quest experience is simple and stress-free and works great as a palate cleanser as you walk around helping out your friends and doing cat things like knocking over pots and meowing. There are also a variety of fun achievements to unlock that add to the game’s charm while you progress toward the heartwarming conclusion.
