F2D - Steer To Persevere Review
F2D - Steer To Persevere (F2D stands for Formula 2D) is a Formula racing game developed by Zyg Studios… which is just one person: zyg101. Conveniently enough, I recently had a phase where I got into Formula racing. Whilst I do not know every single thing that comes with the sport, I think I know enough of the basics to at least appreciate what the game has to offer. So, will it be a podium finish, or will it crash and burn? Let’s find out!
First off, let’s talk about all the ways you can play the game. There are a variety of modes to play either by yourself or with other people. You can tackle the Career mode to become the best racing team, the Championship, Single Race, and Time Trials if you just want to drive/study the tracks, or head to the multiplayer tab to compete against other people directly or against their ghosts. I focused on the Career mode for this review.
Races are set up similar to actual F1 ones. First, you'll do a lap to determine your position at the start line, and then, you get into the real race against 21 other players vying for a podium spot. The better you place, the more season points you get, and the better chance you have of winning the entire season.
Don’t think for a second that this is a pure arcade-style racer. While it isn’t quite a simulator, with simplified controls and a lack of real car damage, you still have to consider what type of car and what tyres to use depending on the weather and the track you’re racing on, as well as pitting when your tyres are about to disintegrate on you. Also, you can’t drive like a total idiot, crashing into others and driving off the track for shortcuts. As someone who is very much unfamiliar with F1 racing, my first couple of matches ended up with me in last place, especially since I didn’t have the upgrades to make my car competitive.
However, most F1 teams don’t race alone, so you’ll have a teammate to help earn points for your team. Your A.I. buddy isn’t too bad, able to keep up with you if you’re a good driver and gets better the more races they do, but it'll be a while before they’re able to take pole position on their own. That’s why you might want a real person behind the wheel. Luckily, you can have a friend join your team and race together, even enjoy some couch co-op with 20 people.
Between races, you'll be able to upgrade your facilities to improve your car and increase the amount of currency you get per race. I do highly recommend spending a season or two not focusing on winning, but building up the resources needed until you do have enough upgrades to do it later. It is a little frustrating and sad to drag behind everyone right from the start, but it does feel great when you finally start getting single-digit places.
The build I was playing was a little… unfinished. Notably, the game did recommend playing with a controller, but I was forced to use my mouse and keyboard to navigate some menus, and there was a dialogue box left in the full game that recommended I wishlist it since I beat the demo. Also, when scrolling through all the upgrades, it doesn’t go all the way down which is really annoying.
Overall, I think F2D - Steer To Persevere is a pretty good racing game, I’m just not skilled enough to appreciate it fully for what it is. It’s a completely fine, casual racing game for fans of Formula racing that makes for a decent introduction to the sport, and makes racing fun with friends all in one small package. I just wish it could’ve been cleaned up a little more for the full release.

Hello Dylan!
Just wanted to thank you for the incredible and fair review. I really appreciate the useful feedback, most of which I was able to incorporate into the new update! :)
(And as a fun tidbit—technically, your review puts F2D as higher-rated than F1 2024! While that’s not entirely true, it still feels like an awesome life achievement, so thank you for that as well! :') )
Wishing you a great week!
