Hard West Review

Hard West Review

Hard West is an action packed game that comes with a very simple premise. Basically, all you need to do in this game is to make sure that you avenge your death by killing the persons who wronged you. As a character that comes back to life, you have plenty of missions that have to be completed, all of which create a very interesting, albeit a little dark storyline which is interesting for sure.

The turn based combat experience is what makes this game unique, but at the same time the western setting does a great job when it comes to offering you a refined, extraordinary place to check out and one that is filled with history.

I liked the idea of exploring choices as this is what makes the game different, however the combat is compelling because it does offer a wide range of strategic approaches that you can check out as you see fit. On top of that, I found the combat system to be on point, being a lot more detailed and focused on results rather than anything else.

They also integrated a very good cover system which I appreciated quite a lot, as it does manage to bring up tons of unique opportunities and it makes the entire gameplay a lot more refined. The cover system integrates seamlessly with the shadow spotting mechanic that will immediately show you when you are detected by the enemies.

I also have to note that the setting of this game is very interesting. We have seen a number of titles like Hard West for a very long time but let’s face it, none of them have been in a Western setting. I can see Hard West as being a Wild West X-Com, with a lot of tactical depth and plenty of interesting opportunities that any player can check out whenever he wants.

The weapons in this game are very impressive, and at the same time the experience is nicely designed to the point that you will really love how everything works. It’s really interesting to come up with something new for a change, and this game does an amazing job in this regard.

Hard West goes for a noir aspect and this suits the title quite well. It does a great job when it comes to offering a refined, fun experience and that on its own can be really exciting. In fact, the game world is detailed, the characters have fluid animations and everything just manages to work in a seamless manner, offering you a great set of visuals and a wonderful world filled with secrets that you have to unravel.

I am very impressed with the stuff that Hard West has to offer, and I really look forward to completing the entire set of missions. Depending on the tactical depth you want to approach, the title can take dozens of hours to complete, so you do get a lot of content for what you pay. In the end, Hard West is a solid tactics game set in the wild west, so if you are fan of either categories this should be a no brainer!
