Disaster Report Diaries (Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories) Part Twelve

This is my exploration of the Disaster Report series, where I will chronicle my playthrough like a text-based Let’s Play. Now let’s continue Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories…

Yuko Ichikawa had been chased by a cult and chased out of a shelter, but was trying to do good in Housenka Shopping Street…

With Hitler (probably not his real name) demanding the orphans leave immediately, I couldn’t accomplish anything else, so I walked through a couple of rooms to reach the east side of the street. This side had a movie theatre, bowling alley, a GZ Burger, and more burnt wreckage.

The udon shop owner had set up a table and a hot plate and was selling food. Since I was almost out of rations, I bought one of each of the five varieties, spending 1,810 yen. Each one took up two slots in my inventory, so while I’d have liked to have purchased all 100 of his stock, I didn’t want my Guitar Backpack to be full of food.

I found someone selling 400,000 shares in Vestola Co., which I bought for 2,800,000 yen to add to the 100,000 shares I already owned. Neither the movie theatre nor GZ Burger had anything interesting inside (except for a GZ Burger Compass), and I quickly discovered that I could immediately leave the area. However, I decided to have a thorough look around, and grabbed Firefighter Gloves, a Firefighter Helmet, and a Firefighter Uniform off of a firetruck, equipping them all just in case.

Going around the back of some wreckage, I found Danny! He had been badly injured, and was barely conscious, but nonetheless happy to see me. I asked who had hurt him, but he didn’t answer, just telling me that he only studied in Japan to help his family back home. It had only been a couple of hours since I had arrived in town…

I told Danny that I’d find a doctor and he thanked me. However, despite talking to literally every person in town, including a nurse, two firefighters, and two police officers, nobody would acknowledge the fact that I had found a person dying.

I wound up in the back of the bowling alley and found a crawl space that allowed me to get into the main area, which was blocked by the police. I found a Shoulder Bag with 40 spaces inside, but nothing else of note, so I equipped it and left. In fact, with no help available for Danny, the only option left for me was to leave town…

It took about four hours, but I found myself back in Suiren Park, so I decided to check in on everyone that I’d met twice already. The people at Glitnir Inc. still didn’t acknowledge the fact that I was supposed to have an interview there, so I went to the clothing store and spoke to Akemi, the fashion designer. She thanked me for my earlier advice and wondered how to thank me, so I suggested that she give me a kiss… which she did!

I thanked Akemi and her staff, and she asked me what my plans were, to which I replied I just wanted to go home. She told me to stay safe, and I went up to the top floor and spoke to the woman who had given me her savings, as I’d promised to return with more money to pay off her loan shark. I handed over 1,800,000 yen — 10 times the amount she had given me — and not only received 80 Moral Points, but also an Italian Restaurant Transfer Contract.

Asking why she had given me the building rights and deed for the Italian restaurant in Ajisai Crossing, she explained that a Mr. Yoshimi had suggested that she run a restaurant with another woman he knew. She was training in Italy, but he had died before connecting the two of them. However, the woman who had just given me the contract didn’t feel that she could handle the pressures of running a restaurant, and suggested that I take over instead.

In the park itself, I found the unemployed man who had dropped his lunch on that first day. He was still worrying about returning to his family and explaining that he had been fired, so I told him to go home and put on a happy face. This motivated him enough to actually smile and head home.

Kanae Tomita (still in my clothes) greeted me, and I warned her about the man stalking Tomoya. She brushed it off and asked me for help handing out numbered tickets, for people to get transport to the airport, and from there they could return home. I mean, so long as they lived outside of Hisui City. I offered to help if it would help others, and she gave me five tickets (and was awarded 15 Moral Points).

I spoke to seven people — one didn’t need a ticket and one was hoping for more destruction so they could take photos — and gave them the free tickets, then returned to Kanae. She gave me two Airport Tickets and asked me to give the spare to someone. Then, she explained that the meeting place was the Garbera Bridge Rest Area, which someone nearby reacted poorly to. They threw the ticket on the ground and stomped on it, because the rest area was further than they wanted to walk.

They didn’t hear Kanae snap at them for stepping on the ticket, as their companion told them that they were going to the shelter near city hall, which had plenty of resources and even baths! I considered my options, but decided that leaving the city was probably my best option.

First, though, I wanted to check on Natsumi Higa and her students, so I crawled beneath a fallen sign and made my way to Asago Crossing. I spotted her in the convenience store and went inside to find her thanking the store owner for helping them out, along with Eri Akasaka. To my surprise, a lot of the shelves had been restocked somehow.

I had arrived just in time, as they were getting ready to leave the area — but then Hidemi Shimizu ran in shouting about an emergency. Hiroko Yamauchi had climbed up a building and was going to jump!

They ran outside, but I had a quick look around for anything to nab, and found a Hisui Gakuin High School Uniform. I put it on because I didn’t feel I needed the Firefighter Uniform, and also put the Construction Site Helmet back on. The Firefighter Helmet looked silly with the school uniform…

Once outside, we saw Hiroko halfway out of a window on the top floor. Ironically, that was only about three stories up due to the rest of the building having collapsed two days ago, but still high enough to cause serious injury at the very least. I wondered if she was really going to do it, but the building shifted and she fell, barely managing to grab hold to dangle below the window.

Natsumi hurried up the ladder to help her student, and I went up after her. Natsumi was trying to pull her in, despite Hiroko’s protestations, so I helped because I couldn’t leave her alone. Once inside, Hiroko asked why we helped even when she told us not to, so I said that I sympathised.

As we all headed for the stairs and ladder, the building began shifting again. We reached the window to escape and Natsumi shoved us out of the way as rubble buried where we were just standing. Hiroko and I were saved, but as the teenagers started digging for their teacher, I could do nothing else but help (and received 15 Moral Points for it).

Hiroko uncovered Natsumi’s body and the students began to weep. Nearby, I found the pen that the teacher’s brother had given to her, so I picked up the Broken Fountain Pen. As I looked at her, I was devastated, both as an in-game choice and emotionally, as I’d never lost a close companion before…
