Disaster Report Diaries (Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3) Part Seven
This is my exploration of the Disaster Report series where I will chronicle my playthrough like a text-based Let’s Play. Now let’s continue Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3: Kowareyuku Machi to Kanojo no Uta...
Rina Makimura, Saki Honjou, Ayami Hazuki, and a man called Ishizawa had escaped the sinking West District and rested in a makeshift camp in a Central Memorial Park Rest Area overnight. I was awoken at 07:46 am by Saki and Ayami, as Ishizawa had vanished while we slept. While I called him a selfish person, the others assumed that he left to reach the shelter early and warn them about the island.
Saki told us to head on to the shelter without her, as she needed to go to see the hospital director and make sure that he was safe. I told her that we should all go, which Ayami agreed with, so we headed to the nearby hospital. I also received Disaster Manual 48: Being Lost, which suggested that only one person should look for the other in the event of being split up.
We arrived at the “nearby” Central Island Municipal Hospital at 09:32 am. The parking lot was filled with red shipping containers, which were scattered around the place, as well as a single vehicle. Before approaching the hospital itself, I ran around and picked up a G-Clef Compass, a Bowling Compass, a Chef Coat outfit, a copy of East District News, and a Long-Sleeve Tee outfit.
The East District News mentioned a recent parade which was visited by 200,000 people, and one of the 54 floats featured a 30-metre high mascot of Central Tower called Sentaro. The new clothes reminded me that I was still in a raincoat, so I changed into a Black Tee outfit, as I liked the embroidered butterfly on the jeans, as well as a Ten-Gallon Hat.
Before we entered the main doors, Saki said that she first wanted to visit a surgical suite on the ground floor to properly treat Ayami’s wound from the hotel. I also obtained Disaster Manual 42: Hospitals, which warned that, as of January 2009, many hospitals in Japan wouldn’t be able to function after a disaster, as they didn’t meet earthquake-proof standards!
Inside, I spotted a lot of stuff to pick up, so I did that first, getting a new Large Backpack, some Packing Tape, Leather Shoes, a Termo. Compass, an issue of Novel Weekly [2], some Geta, and a Red Tee outfit. The magazine had part of the serialisation of The Calm Heart, seemingly an action-packed thriller. We then rested on a nearby bench before going inside to sort Ayami out.
After disinfecting the wound and giving painkillers, Saki asked me and Ayami to wait outside while she went to find the director. We agreed and split up, but after some time had passed, the teenager expressed concern for our comrade. I told her that Saki was a strong and determined person, but she insisted that we check on her, so I told her it was too dangerous for her to go, so I would.
Once back inside, I headed up the stairs to the fourth floor, finding most other routes blocked by rubble. I quickly overheard Saki being frustrated by the director, who wouldn’t leave without his wife, or let us help get the sick woman outside. I did like that Saki said that I was calm and dependable, so I decided to cut into the conversation and convince the doctor. However, it was for naught; the director told Saki to chase her dream and she agreed to leave.
After reading Disaster Manual 52: Seriously Ill Patients, which described ways of moving patients unable to walk, we walked down the hallway. A tremor hit, collapsing the ceiling on the area which we had just left! Saki was obviously hit hard emotionally, knowing that her father figure had clearly been crushed, so I tried to comfort her which she seemed to react well to.
The stairs we had used to reach the fourth floor were also buried now, so we had to contend with two intermittent spouts of fire coming out of the floor. I grabbed a Purple Tee outfit (and accidentally put it on), a Fishing Compass, and a Water 500ml before jumping the first gap. I then grabbed some Greaves before jumping the second, and some Western Boots which I was tempted to put on. At the end of the hallway was an emergency exit, so I barged it open — and almost fell! The emergency stairs had collapsed, so we needed an alternate way to the ground.
A tremor collapsed the way back, so our only option was an elevator shaft. However, my stress meter was impacting my health, so I used a First Aid Kit before entering through the open doors. I spotted a few things to pick up, so grabbed the Loafers, North Dog Compass, and Wedding Shoes before taking hold of the ladder.
Saki mused that it would suck for the elevator to be shaken free and fall on us, which I didn’t find funny. Especially since a tremor shook the elevator car free! We hurriedly climbed down the ladder and then out of the open ground-floor doors, barely escaping before the car crashed down.
With my stress level once again badly affecting my health, I decided against using another First Aid Kit and instead drank a Sports Drink. It lowered my stress, but didn’t refill my health, so I hoped that I would find a bench outside. I grabbed a Pink Tee outfit before we ran through the emergency doors, and we quickly found Ayami. I admitted that I had been scared too, then she blundered into asking about the director.
Saki seemed at peace with what had happened, and asked that we keep up the good teamwork which had resulted in her being there and not still with the director. We shook hands, then she shook Ayami’s hand, and with that we headed for the East District shelter, which she said wasn’t far. I quickly skimmed over Disaster Manual 55: Fire Outbreaks, which warned about electrical fires such as the one caused by an electric heater still being turned on when power was restored after the Great Hanshin earthquake.
Before leaving the parking lot, I realised that the reason I could hear water since exiting the building was because a large portion of the car park was in the process of sinking! And we’d been standing around like lemons!
I found a bench and had a quick rest, then grabbed a Stray Compass, some Beige Shoes, a Discontinued Tee, and some Pink High Heels before we got on our way…
