Of course, as well as playing a major role at club level, Ronaldo is also captain of his national team, Portugal. Having qualified for the 2022 World Cup, their campaign will kick-off when they face Uruguay in their opening match. Portugal can be seen as being a little fortunate with their World Cup draw with their group being one of the easiest.

That being said, it is this opening game that will set the tone for the rest of the tournament. Scrapping through to the last 16 will not be acceptable to Ronaldo, or to the other top players that make up the Portuguese team. This opener will see the team sending a message to the other nations.

Will Ronaldo and Portugal be at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on 18th December? Well, no one can predict the future, but Ronaldo will be going all out to make sure that this is the case. At the age of 37, Rolando may be in perfect form, but he is no longer young in terms of being a footballer. This means that 2022 may well be his last World Cup.

There is no doubt that whoever makes it to the final, the match will be one to remember. However, seeing Ronaldo and Portugal lift the World Cup would be the dream end to his footballing career.
