Top Games Coming Out in February 2022

Top Games Coming Out in February 2022

I love videogames, and I sometimes love videogames so much that my wife questions if I love them more than her. Although I'm still searching for the answer to that question deep within my soul, I have decided to stray from soul-searching and replace it with game-searching. In big part, to feed my videogaming addiction.

Additionally, I have invited my good friend retrogamergirl to join me on my quest to find the top 10 best games coming out this month! The first five will be selected by me, and the second half will be for her to take away!

Fayburrow

3rd of February

Fayburrow

Play as Beatrice as she receives a call from a childhood friend to return to her old hometown; however, as soon as she arrives, she finds out that her friend is mysteriously missing.

Fayburrow seemingly came out of nowhere and awestruck me with its visuals; it’s truly jaw-dropping how gorgeous this title is. Although the story isn't anything unique that will change the tides of history, I won't write off the potential to get shocked by the tale; one never knows what games are holding up their sleeves. Plus, I'm a sucker for anything that has fairies and magic. Fayburrow will be released on PC.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human

4th of February

Dying Light 2 Stay Human

Techland has deprived us of a brand-new Dying Light game for seven years now, and now we are finally going to get the opportunity to see the culmination of hard work: the notorious Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

With an open-world map, tons of zombies' brains to bash, side quests, and reportedly well over 500 hours of content, the game is sure to keep you entertained for years to come. Stand down, Skyrim, there is a new length-based king in town, and we're not talking under the belt! Dying Light 2 Stay Human will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Zorya: The Celestial Sisters

8th of February

Zorya The Celestial Sisters

Play as either Aysu, the goddess of the night that was stranded on earth and is searching for her way back to the sky, or Solveig, the goddess of the sun as she tries to help her sister on her quest to navigate safely through the shadows to regain her scattered powers all across the lands of Viraj.

Any game that is a co-op multiplayer gets a big plus from me. More so, however, when it has features such as shared/split-screen co-op and remote play together in an attempt to keep the couch gaming sphere as lively as possible. If not for the puzzle co-op features, then certainly for its beautiful and chonky atmosphere. Zorya: The Celestial Sisters will be released on PC and the Nintendo Switch!

Horizon Forbidden West

18th of February

Horizon Forbidden West

2022 is a big year for sequels, and this is in big part thanks to Horizon Forbidden West's imminent release. After being nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2017, and a successful release on Steam in 2020, it's time to welcome a brand-new entrance to the series!

With a promise for a bigger game, engaging and varied combat between melee and ranged, more exploration options, and gorgeous underwater mechanics, this one's one to look forward to. Unfortunately, Horizon Forbidden West will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

ELDEN RING

25th of February

ELDEN RING

The sole reason why I even wanted to make this article: ELDEN RINGI'll take any reason to talk about ELDEN RING.

The next entry by FromSoftware and a brand-new IP, the game will feature a story written by George R. R. Martin, an open-world map, and the staple soulslike combat that all FromSoftware games have. If you're not dying from excitement for this release, I'm not sure we can be friends. Thankfully, ELDEN RING will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC!

Honourable Mentions

Total War: WARHAMMER III (17th of February) - I’ve never played a WARHAMMER game, however upon seeing this one I felt the jitters sneak up on me. Certainly one I am looking forward to!

Martha Is Dead (24th of February) - This game looks phenomenal, with gorgeous graphics. And honestly, who isn’t a little enticed by any psychological horror? Definitely in my sights.

That’s it for me, folks! It’s been fun melting into a goo of excitement for the upcoming games this month. Alas, we still must wait for them to release! That being said, take it away, Alana!

retrogamergirl

Clearly loves retro too much

Yay, my turn now! I, like Artura, am always on the lookout for new games to check out. Since I am so into retro games, my collections were always physical copies, so I always had to make sure I had room for a bunch of additions. Now, with games being available in digital form, I just have to make sure I make room on the console or my PC for everything I want. I definitely don’t have the funds to buy every title, so I have to prioritise which will get added to my collection. Here are the five games that I’m super excited for!

Webbed

2nd of February

Webbed Steam Game

I’m normally not a big fan of spiders, something about them really creeps me out, but playing as a cute spider who is on an adventure to save her boyfriend from a mean bowerbird sounds adorable. I don’t need a complicated or in-depth story to keep me happy, just fun platforming action and swinging through the air with her silk and using web blasters against the bird looks like a ton of fun! Webbed will be available on the Switch, Xbox, and PC.

OlliOlli World

8th of February

OlliOlli World

A 2D skateboarding action-platformer that has you skating through the colourful world of Radland. OlliOlli World features a ton of customisation options to make your perfect character. Want a character with purple mohawk, large glasses, and a hoodie? You can totally do that! Pretty much anything you can imagine is here!

Watching the game trailer gave me vibes of the Trials series of games where you would repeatedly crash, then hop back on the bike to try again and again to complete your objective. With tons of skateboarding tricks to learn, this title will definitely take time to master but looks like a great challenge. I need to try this!

Backbone

9th of February

Backbone Steam Game

As soon as I saw the art for Backbone, I was instantly interested. Set in a pixel version of Vancouver, BC (a place I’ve actually been to), this noir-style detective adventure stars a raccoon private eye and other animal characters like a red fox and a badger. I’ve always loved detective stories, so solving a mystery with a unique cast is totally up my alley!

I’m looking forward to seeing if I recognise any of the places I got to visit during my time in Vancouver! It’s not very often I get to play a game that is set in a location that I’ve actually visited in person!

Super Squidlit

9th of February

Super Squidlit2

Retro style games have always had a soft spot in my heart, so I always get excited when I see a platformer with pixel graphics, especially ones that look as adorable as this! Super Squidlit has you playing as a cute, squishy squid who shoots ink blobs at enemies. Got to love when the main character is light purple!

The game has been made to look like you are playing it on a Game Boy Colour system. So everything — including the power light — is here. Gameplay wise, Super Squidlit looks like it’s taken inspiration from another classic Gameboy title, Kirby’s Dreamland. I know this is going to be a fun title when you see cutesy enemies that you just want to hug!

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV

17th of February

King of Fighters

I’ve always been a big fan of fighting games, I’m not the best and I don’t usually learn all the cool combos, but I love duking it out with other players and trying out all different fighters to see which one I like to use best. This new entry in The King of Fighters series still features 3-on-3 team battles but promises more speed and excitement than ever before. The roster boasts 35 different characters, so there are a ton of fighters to choose from, no matter your fighting style. Even if your style involves a lot of jumping and button-mashing like the members of my household. I’m always interested in how games in a franchise this large can switch things up to make things feel fresh and not an exact copy of a title we have got before.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV looks great, so I’m hoping that this will be another fun addition to the series!

Those are the five titles that I’m looking forward to trying out. They aren’t all big name releases, but I really enjoy indie games that have so much love put into them, they can stand alongside all those titles with bigger budgets and more people working on them behind the scenes!

Are there any big titles you think we missed out on? What are you looking forward to checking out this month? Let us know in the comments!
