AORUS Announces RGB Fusion Keyboard and the Award Winning X7 DT at Computex 2016

At the Computex 2016 expo, AORUS displayed their full lineup, with some new additions. Their laptop family is expanded with the announcement of the latest model, the 17.3” X7 DT. There was also a first look at their new keyboard, which is a per-key fully customisable RGB affair. It will be an option across their x5 and x7 range going forward.

The X7 DT holds the crown now for being the thinnest and lightest VR-Ready laptop in the world, and the only laptop recipient of the “Gaming & Virtual Reality” category of the 2016 CES Innovation Awards. It's VR certified and compatible right out of the box and meets the specs for both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift.

The new keyboard, the AORUS RGB Fusion (as pictured above), features per-key backlighting, delivering virtually unlimited customization. The RGB backlight provides 16.8 million color variations, and can be customized to light up only the required keys, or go a step further and setup animated illumination effects like breathing, waves, and ripples. Or, you could just have it glow one colour so you can see it in the dark. Hey, it's your computer, you can do what you like; we're not going to tell you what to do.

The machine boasts a 6th Generation (Skylake) Intel Core i7 overclocked processor and true desktop GPU in the form of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, all within a thin and lightweight chassis. Weighing in at 3.2kg, it's lighter than the average newborn, but a fair bit slimmer at only 25.4mm. It also benefits from AORUS' previously announced "multicam" camouflage design, now available on all current models.

That's going to get real toasty with a chasis that thin, might be able to make a cheese toasty with the thermals. But in all seriousness, is this really worth it considering next generation of GPUs are coming around the corner?

I'm not sure if there's ever a good time to buy PC hardware as there's always something new just around the corner. Once the 1080s become commonplace, we'll be saying it's not worth going for those as the 1080ti will be along shortly?

Personally, I'm not a fan of gaming laptops in general as I'd rather have a lightweight laptop for general computing and maybe a little steam streaming with a desktop I can mess around with for proper gaming. Appreciate that not everyone has the space or budget to do that though.
