Battleborn's Multiplayer Goes Free to Play

Remember Battleborn? Maybe not, but now might be the time to give it a try. This is because (to no one’s surprise) Gearbox has done what everyone expected and made Battleborn free to play.

Much like Evolve Stage 2, Battleborn has gone down the same route and offered the initial game for free with optional purchases of in-game currency to allow you to unlock new characters, gear, cosmetics and more. Fortunately, everything isn’t a grind, as you can play Battleborn’s entire multiplayer experience for free. That’s all the modes and maps, without any restrictions.

With a total of 30 different heroes to choose from, Gearbox has decided to keep things fresh by having a weekly rota on the playable characters. If you’ve picked a favourite and they’re not on rotation, you can unlock them permanently with in-game currency, but that’s up to you. For those who want to get the most, you can play as the characters as much as you want, level them up, unlock gear for them etc. If out of the rotation, don’t worry, when they’re back you can continue where you left off. That’s not a bad compromise.

So what about those who already own Battleborn? Owners of the game prior to the free-to-play switch will be awarded the “prestigious” Founders status which includes bonus content, Legendary Gear, 1,000 Platinum, 50,000 credits, loot packs and more.

The Battleborn free trial is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
