Carmageddon: Max Damage Announced for Consoles (Possibly on PC too) [Updated]

EDIT: We have received confirmation of a PC release.

It's been a while since console gamers got to run over pedestrians whilst giggling about gore in Carmageddon on the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Stainless Games are seeking to remedy that with Carmageddon: Max Damage.

Due out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Max Damage isn't just a console version of Carmageddon: Reincarnation, either. Because according to a posting to the Steam Community, it will be available on Windows, too! Though we can't confirm that, as the official site and video above only say about the consoles.

It will feature:

  • Over 30 cool custom killing machines, each with their own highly distinctive character
  • 10 large open environments to explore
  • A host of moving targets to hunt down for points, including pedestrians in wheelchairs & mobility scooters, cyclists, bears and aliens
  • Career mode with 6 different event types
  • Multiplayer with 4 online event types
  • Fully featured action replay mode; to relive all the action again from any perspective.
  • … with over 90 crazy PowerUps, complex car damage and repair system, blood, laughs and much, much more.

If you've played Reincarnation, you will notice that the video above shows several vehicles and pedestrian types which aren't available in the PC game. If the Steam Community posting is correct and owners of Reincarnation will get Max Damage absolutely free in their Steam library, then we'll let you know as soon as we do. We have reached out for comment.

I wonder if this will be a sneaky way of clearing the negativity of Reincarnation?

It does seem similar to Elder Scrolls Online changing to Tamriel Unlimited for consoles.

After the horror of Reincarnation they better reimburse people who bought the game with a free copy of Max Damage...

Well, so goes the rumour. Not seen it confirmed except the Steam Community, as yet.

This was part of the email from a Kickstarter update they sent through, which mirrors the Steam stuff;

"and even better, when Carmageddon: Max Damage is released on PC you will automatically get it too. Yes, that’s another Carmageddon in your Steam library – for free!"
