DayZ Reaches 1 Million Sales

DayZ Reaches 1 Million Sales

Creator of mod, turned full release game, DayZ' s Dean Hall has announced via twitter that Bohemia Interactive have sold over 1 million copies in the first 28 days since its Early Access release.

With DayZ and Rust holding the top two spots in Steam at the moment, Hall has stated that it appears to be a "shots fired" moment for traditional publishing models and that DayZ can no longer be considered, as he put it, an anomaly.

After selling over 172,500 copies within its first 24 hours, totaling more than $5.17 million in launch-day sales. DayZ has become the "indie style development" success of the games industry despite the fact that it is not only unfinished, buggy, and unstable at times, but also missing features and generally being what you would expect from an alpha build of a product.

.... we're just blown away with the success of it, We obviously knew that there was strong interest in the concept, but weren't sure whether that interest was just ‘hype' or whether it would actually translate into real sales. I remember when we finally pushed the button, I had this moment of panic when I wondered if many people would really buy it.

- Dean 'Rocket' Hall

Earlier this month, developer Bohemia Interactive revealed that the standalone isn't expected to reach the beta stage of development before the end of 2014 with current focus being stability and delivering on promises made to players.
