FIFA To Feature Female Cover Star For The First Time

FIFA To Feature Female Cover Star For The First Time

EA Sports have today announced that, for the first time, a female player will stand alongside Lionel Messi on the front cover of this year's FIFA 16.

The captain of the US Women's National Team, Alex Morgan, will be featured on the cover in America, and captain of the Canadian Women's National Team, Christine Sinclair, will join Messi for copies sold in Canada.

“It is an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA Sports FIFA,” said Morgan. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”

“This year’s World Cup showcased the unbelievable talent and skill in women’s soccer,” said Sinclair. “I’m thrilled that EA Sports is celebrating female athletes in FIFA 16. To be featured in the game and to promote women’s soccer with Alex is really special and another exciting step for women in sports.”

This of course follows the recent announcement that women's national teams would be playable in FIFA for the first time since the series' inception.

FIFA 16 is to be released for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on 22nd September.

It's weird... They try to make it out that this is equality, but the fact that they have to announce it and make a big deal out of it make it seem like they are confirming it isn't.

I'm really don't care who's on the cover... as long as the game's good!

And Alex doesn't care who's on the cover, so long as they release a FIFA title...
