Frontier Developments Makes Redundancies, Announces New IP

Although they have clearly wanted to bring in some positive publicity with the announcement of a new IP, Eurogamer are reporting that they have also made some redundancies despite seemingly strong sales from Elite: Dangerous.

With fifteen people being dropped from the Cambridge studio, and roles from the Halifax studio being moved back across the pond, it looks like the 250+ staff have their work cut out for them.

After all, there is continued development on Elite: Dangerous, on the push towards Update 1.1 and a Mac beta beginning soon, work on the Xbox One release ScreamRide due in March and the newly announced title due 2016, there's only so much one team can do.

Oh, right, the new title!

Using the knowledge gained from their development of ScreamRide and the 2004 PC hit Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Frontier have announced Coaster Park Tycoon.

Coaster Park games appeal to a great many people, as proven by RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. It is a field for which Frontier has unparalleled expertise and immense passion, and one to which we have long wanted to make a ‘no-holds-barred’ return. We want Coaster Park Tycoon to be another major step forward for the simulation genre, and sit alongside Elite: Dangerous as a second major self-published franchise

- Jonny Watts, Chief Creative Officer, Frontier Developments

It's being developed for the PC and will be released in 2016.
