Nintendo's Next Console is... The NES?

With sales of the Wii U not being what Nintendo had hoped for, both the company themselves and their fans are looking ahead to the next console, the NX. It turns out though, that the next hardware release will actually be a slightly more retro affair, a re-release (of sorts) of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System.

Featuring diminutive dimensions compared to the origina, the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System is a plug-and-play TV console featuring 30 NES classics. It comes with a controller dubbed the Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller. The controller is a modern day replica of the first gamepad that the world saw, with a connector that makes it compatible not just with this console, but with the Wiimote, meaning that you can use it to control your virtual console games.

Classics such as Punch-Out, Super Mario Bros. 1-3, The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania and Final Fantasy are all featured in the unit, which launches in stores on the 11th of November. It also supports the Wii Classic and Classic Pro controllers (but not the wireless Wii U pro controller sadly). It's powered entirely by USB and comes with HDMI support to make it easier to play on your modern TV. No fiddling about trying to find the right VHF frequency with this bad boy.
