Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Announces Release Date in Developer_Direct 2024 Trailer

It's been nearly five years since the announcement of the highly anticipated Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, and though we've heard little about it since then, we finally got a long look at the next adventure that we'll be able to embark with as Senua in an eight-minute video shown off at Developer_Direct 2024!

Over the course of the five-year run, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 has grown steadily in followers as Xbox fans look forward to the much-awaited sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice — the ongoing console wars have rooted for the Microsoft-owned side and looked forward to this sequel (alongside a slew of other exciting upcoming titles). It's been shown off a few times at the prestigious The Game Awards alongside a slew of other events, and it's racked up an excited fanbase of 12,441 followers on Steam and reached top #114 in wishlists at the time of writing.

Now, in an eight-minute-long video posted on the Ninja Theory YouTube channel, the team talks a lot more about the upcoming sequel, exploring the struggles that Senua's going to face with this new entry into the Hellblade franchise and how it'll differ from the original. From a combat overhaul to a more narrative-focused approach, there is a lot that's going to make Senua's Saga: Hellblade II different from the original, but fans continue to show strong excitement for the title.

Ninja Theory shows off a bit of the upgrades the game is going to get, including the overhauled mo-cap location, stunt performers, and even the research process of going to Iceland in order to learn more about the geological locations. Our protagonist will continue to deal with psychosis, which means that the team is working closely with Professor Por Fletcher Brown from the University of Cambridge to continue bringing all of her mental health struggles to reality as true to life as possible. Though she'll already be more acquainted with her own illness and less terrified of it, they'll still be an integral part of the way the game is built narratively alongside the audio design and gameplay as well.

The Ninja Theory team is very enthusiastic about the sequel, and we highly recommend checking out the video to learn more about Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. The entire experience culminated on the release date — mark the 21st of May 2024 in your calendars, as that's when you'll be able to dive into the game through the Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass!
