Sonic Boom Introduces Sticks

Sticks will be the first new playable Sonic character since Silver The Hedgehog, and the first new female character since Blaze The Cat. Sega say she will play a big part in both the upcoming videogame as well as the cartoon.

Sticks is a jungle badger in all sense of the word 'jungle' - like Tarzan before her she has lived her whole life away from everyone in a jungle. Of course her full backstory has yet to be revealed. She has a boomerang which is her addition to the "bandages everywhere" theme in art released so far. It's unclear how this will play into the gameplay, especially given the characters will be tethered together.

 The videogame will also introduce exploration, combat and a new Enerbeam tether mechanic that will allow the Sonic Boom world to be discovered in totally unique ways.

This sounds like the mechanic in the Sega 32X game Knuckles' Chaotix which joined two characters together and could sling-shot to pick up speed. Quite how a pico-hammer and boomerang will fit in has yet to be seen.

Sticks will apparently be the comic relief due to her untrusting and primal nature. Being based around the cartoon of the same name, it seems Sonic Boom will be a less-than-serious take on the franchise.
