Sonic Mania Collector's Edition Coming to Europe

Sonic Mania Collector's Edition Coming to Europe

With Sonic Mania getting a digital only release, a number of retro gamers have expressed a little discontent. For the gaming nostalgia collectors, it's often a physical product which they're most excited about and a download product isn't quite the same. Whilst the game is remaining released in a downloadable version only, Sega are helping to appease collectors with a special edition of the title with a whole host of feelies.

The edition will be available in Europe exclusively at Amazon, and contains a statue, a digital code for the game and a ring, encased in a replica Mega Drive cartridge. The statue, which features Sonic astride a replica Mega Drive, plays the familiar Sega jingle that was heard at the start of the first game (which, fact fans, took up an eighth of the memory on the cartridge).

The special version had already been announced for the Americas, where it will be available from select retailers including Gamestop, but a European version hadn't been announced. The set is available to pre-order now on Amazon, although the images show the hedgehog atop a Genesis rather than a Mega Drive. We've asked Sega to clarify if this is a stock image or if the statue will be localised for the European region.

“We’ve been thrilled with the European fan excitement surrounding Sonic Mania,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer of Sonic Pillar. “While we weren’t able to announce the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition simultaneously with North America, we are now pleased to announce it’s available for pre-order for Europe. Our fans across the world are important to us.”

I want this. Just for the "~SEGA~" jingle.

Interesting fact, btw.
