SpeedRunners Launching in Full This Month

tinyBuild love infographics more than Terry loves pickles. So with the impending switch of SpeedRunners from an Early Access title to a full fat Steam release, they've treated us to another in depth insight into their creative and marketing processes. The game is available in full from the 19th April, but has already seen 1 million units running out the door on Steam prior to this.

One interesting thing is that the indie publisher say they have given away over 200k copies of the game. That's a cool $2m worth. Mainly this was through inclusions on bundles from the likes of Humble and GameBundles. This has helped them combat piracy in countries where it is otherwise rife, such as Brazil, who the developer has previously noted was a high consumer of the pirated version of Punch Club

They also developed a rather laissez faire attitude towards verifying media types, preferring instead to give keys to anyone who asked. Why? This encouraged a lot of YouTube and Twitch streamers and Let's Play recorders, meaning free publicity for their game. This helped them get a strong online community and led to the evolution of the game from a fun little indie game with a small community to a full-on competitive multiplayer experience with tonnes of players fighting for the top of the leaderboards.
