The Walking Dead: Betrayal Ends Development After 3 Months

In a recent Steam post, the development team of The Walking Dead: Betrayal has announced that further development of the game has ceased. If you’ve purchased this Early Access game, you can request a refund both on Steam and through their Discord.

“After considering a variety of paths forward, and with a great deal of discussion and reflection, Skybound Games and Other Ocean Interactive have decided to stop development on The Walking Dead: Betrayal.” says the post. “Despite the hard work put into the game, we were not able to find a path to build the spirited community of backstabbers we originally envisioned.”

Other Ocean Interactive is primarily known for Project Winter, a social deduction survival game, and from what I’ve seen, The Walking Dead: Betrayal was basically just that but with zom- excuse me, walkers thrown into the mix.

As hinted at on the post and in the reviews of the game, the shutdown of development was primarily caused by the lack of players. According to one Steam review, even a Free Weekend barely caused a spike in players. In an ironic twist of fate, the game was dead from the start. This is another blow to The Walking Dead franchise as The Walking Dead: Destinies from November 2023 garnered pretty negative press for being… well, a crappy licensed game rushed out the door.  And let’s not forget Overkill's The Walking Dead and how it also crashed and burned in three months.

Man, this IP is cursed.
