Throne and Liberty Set for Global Launch in 2023

NCSOFT has released a new “Director’s Preview” video for its upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Throne and Liberty — also known as TL for short. The 10-minute-long video brings us details about NCSOFT’s development philosophy and design direction for TL, as well as a global release window in the first half of 2023 on PC and consoles. 

In the video, we learn from NCSOFT’s team that all three words of the game's title function as pillars of philosophy; “liberty” allows players the freedom to connect and interact in endless ways, “throne” includes the combat systems and battles players can participate in, “and” is a reminder of unity as well as TL’s slogan “Play For All.” 

The preview also features more details about TL’s world and design. Producer Jongok Ahn reveals that the team has created a seamless living world without boundaries so that players can meet and create communities with ease. Weather conditions and player actions affect how the world changes, and the team has focused on optimising the game so that the experience is as smooth as possible. To further the immersive experience, the MMORPG’s narrative connects the past, present, and future. 

Game design director Lee Moonseop also explains that the team did not want players to be confined to a class. Instead, the game has a “Free Class” system in which players can decide their roles based on the weapons of their choice. Players can always change out weapons to suit combat situations, thereby switching their roles as they see fit. Throne and Liberty will have Player versus Player (PvP) content, but players can decide for themselves whether or not they want to engage in that type of gameplay.
