Toy-Filled Puzzler Tin Hearts Gets Animated Short Film Ahead of Launch

The narrative-based, puzzle adventure Tin Hearts, developed by Rogue Sun, is nearing its release date on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. After receiving favourable reviews of its Nintendo Switch release back in April, players are surely excited to experience it on other platforms. And to celebrate the upcoming launch and give a taste of the whimsical adventures ahead, the team has released “The Little Soldier Who Dared,” a delightful animated short narrated by the well-known voice of Stephen Fry. You can watch it now on YouTube  (linked above) and listen to it soon as a free audiobook available exclusively through Spotify.

“This game has a special magical touch that evolves a feeling of childlike wonder,” Alana Dunitz wrote in her GameGrin Preview of Tin Hearts. The 25-minute short film also captures that feeling well.

Serving as a prequel to the upcoming game, the story follows Victorian inventor Albert Butterworth and his daughter Rose as they travel to the Stockholm toymaking convention. Albert’s toy creations include Gertrude, an avid traveller of faraway lands, and Tommy, a soldier made of tin with a tall red hat and a wind-up key. Gertrude and Tommy come alive once the convention centre is empty, along with the rest of the toys other inventors brought to the event; as they mingle, they compare abilities, craftsmanship, and even gossip about their creators.

“The whole project came together in mere weeks! Alongside our writing team, I was able to start crafting a new story and pour even more into the universe we've been building with Tin Hearts. It has been an equally surreal and exciting part of this development and we feel so lucky to have Stephen involved,” said Kostas Zarifis, founder and managing director of Rogue Sun.

Dive into Tin Hearts’ whimsical alternative-Victorian world when it launches on the 16th of May 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. PCVR, Meta Quest 2, and PSVR2 will also be getting a release later this year. And if you’re a Nintendo Switch player, you can purchase Tin Hearts today.
